Flemish Training Leave (Vlaams Opleidingsverlof - VOV)

Your BLCC language training via VOV in 10 steps.

Private sector employees can, under certain conditions, receive Flemish Training Leave (VOV) to attend training courses while retaining their salary. Employers can receive a flat-rate reimbursement.

This option is also available for certain BLCC language training courses.

About the Flemish Training Leave.

Are you employed in the private sector? Then you may qualify for Flemish Training Leave (VOV) under certain conditions. This allows you to take time off work to attend a training course while your salary continues to be paid. As compensation for the cost of wages, your employer can be reimbursed a flat rate.

You can apply for a Flemish Training Leave for a BLCC language training course.

Who is eligible for VOV?

Every employee working at least 50% at the start of the training course can take advantage of VOV. There is a maximum of 125 hours of training per school year.

Which training courses qualify for VOV?

All BLCC language training courses that are eligible for VOV can be found here. These courses meet the following requirements:

  • A minimum of 32 contact hours or teaching hours within a one-year period.
  • Different modules by the same training provider may be combined to meet the 32-hour requirement.
  • Courses must be at CEFR level B1 or lower.

Attendance requirements

If you follow a course via VOV, it is important that, your unauthorised absences do need exceed 10% of the total lessons (1 lesson hour = 1 hour of VOV). VOV hours are only granted for the lessons you actually attend, e.g. if you're enrolled for 100 lesson hours but only attend 80, you will only be eligible for a maximum of 80 VOV hours.

Who does what?

Do you want to use VOV for a language course? You need to notify BLCC.

The application process involves several stages and requires cooperation between you as an employee, BLCC, the training provider, your employer and the Flemish government.
